Los Angeles Times Food logo

The Los Angeles Times came to us with an interesting assignment: to design a custom wordmark for their food section. The paper has long been recognized for its excellent and ambitious food reporting, and it needed a mark that could serve as a strong anchor for a vibrant new visual identity. L.A. is home to one of the most diverse food scenes in the country, and it was critical that the new wordmark capture the energy and creativity of the city’s cuisine. The final mark is funky and chunky, with a bold attitude and a delicious rhythm.
This was one of the rare projects where were able to focus only on the wordmark without taking on the heavy lifting of designing a full branding system. The color palette, supporting type & graphic treatments, and many other components of the newly re-launched food section were beautifully brought to life by the in-house design team at the LA Times.
